Unidata offers a wide range of low cost, robust weather monitoring instruments. When combined with a Data Logger, a weather proof enclosure and an instrument tower they provide a fully automatic weather station (AWS).

Unidata has a range of radiation sensors which can be directly connected to a MACRO Data Logger and Starlog PROLOGGER, or via a Model 6142A Universal Amplifier Module to a Model 6004 STARLOGGER. Three of the most widely used sensors are listed below. Other types of radiation sensors are available. Contact Unidata for further information.

Measurement Terms

Net Solar Radiation
Is the sum of the incoming direct beam and diffuse solar radiation minus reflected solar radiation.
Albedo
Is the ratio of outgoing solar radiation over incoming solar radiation.
Shortwave Radiation
Is defined as wavelengths from 0.25 to 4µm.
Longwave Radiation
Is defined as wavelengths from 4 to 100µm.
Incoming Radiation
Consists of shortwave direct beam and diffuse solar radiation as well as longwave atmospheric radiation.
Outgoing Radiation
Consists of shortwave reflected solar radiation as well as longwave terrestrial radiation.
Global Solar Radiation
Is the total incoming shortwave radiation (direct + diffuse). Measured by a Pyranometer.
Photosynthetic Active Radiation
Is the total incoming shortwave radiation (direct + diffuse) with wavelengths from 0.4 to 0.7µm. Measured by a PAR Sensor.
Photometric Light
Is the visible spectrum received by human vision with wavelengths from 0.4 to 0.7µm and maximum sensitivity at 0.555µm. Measured by a Lux Sensor.

Other Probes Available

Unidata can supply probes for other temperature ranges and applications. For example, glass sealed probes for temperature monitoring of acidic liquids as found in batteries, 1m or 2m long stainless steel thermistor probes for temperature monitoring in milk tanks, and special size probes to measure leaf temperature can be provided.
