Product Alert #33

STARLOGGER - Model 6004A/B - prior to Serial #3119

Starlogger Issues

19 July 1996

33.1 Wrong Date/Time displayed on LCD

Notes

When the SCHEME display is used to display the current Date/Time it sometimes shows an earlier (incorrect) Date/Time. The logged data and the Test Mode Date/Time are both correct. The SCHEME Date/Time on the LCD subsequently corrects itself (after either 30 minutes or 3 days).

33.2 Quantum Effects and Special Relativity

Problem

At 14:28:15 WAST on 24 June 1996 the STARLOGGERs encountered a “weak spot” in the space-time continuum and the LCD Date/Time routine travelled back in time through a “worm hole” into a parallel Universe that was about 18 months behind our Universe. The unusual gravity field, responsible for this effect, passed away from Earth at 15:17:20 on 27JUN96 and the STARLOGGERs returned to the present time. This effect is predicted to occur again in February 1999 and October 2001 when a close by Neutron Star’s influence aligns with the Earth. Between now and the next major occurrence (in 1999), instability in the space-time fabric will cause STARLOGGERs to display Date/Time errors for short intervals of about 30 minutes every 4 days. Enhancements have been made, to the Firmware of the STARLOGGER, which reinforces the stability of the Date/Time display algorithm and makes it immune to these gravitational field effects.

An alternative explanation is that a mathematical error in the Date/Time display routine caused this problem and this has been corrected in Firmware revisions 21.13 & 22.9 (see below).

Correction

Update STARLOGGER Model A to Firmware Revision 21.13 & Model B to Rev 22.9.

STARLOGGERs after Serial #3119 are not affected.
