SDI-12 Timing problem when used with Campbell CR10

30 August 1995

Problem

There is a timing incompatibility in the SDI-12 Break Detect sequence for all STARLOGGER, STARFLOW and MicroLogger products configured as an SDI-12 Sensor. The problem occurs when a Campbell CR10 Recorder is used to “wake-up” the Sensor. About 50% of the time, the Sensor does not recognise that an SDI-12 communication has been requested and powers down again without responding. This causes the CR10 to report a zero (0) reading.

Symptom

SDI-12 communications from STARLOG products (Sensor) to a CR10 (Recorder) are eratic. About every second SDI-12 request is ignored.

Correction

Upgrade STARFLOW firmware to Version 40.3.

Upgrade STARLOGGER firmware to Version 22.6.

NOTE: It is unlikely that the STARLOGGER will be used in Sensor mode (it would normally be used as a SDI-12 Recorder). Therefore this timing problem would not be noticed in STARLOGGERs.
