Product Alert #14
STARLOGGER DATA LOGGER - Model 6004A - Serial #s 301 to 750
V21.08 Firmware Error - STARLOGGER Stops with DEAD battery
22 September 1993
Problem
Accidentally connecting the RS-232 Computer cable into the Input Signal connector may cause the STARLOGGER to shutdown.
The large negative voltages (-6V to -12V) that may be present on the computer RS-232 cable, corrupts the internal battery voltage signal so that it reads 0.00V (or a random voltage).
STARLOGGER firmware prior to V21.9 will detect this false reading as a battery fault and immediately enter shutdown mode.
Correction
Upgrade the STARLOGGER to V21.9 Firmware.
Note
- NO DAMAGE WILL OCCUR TO THE LOGGER when the cables are incorrectly connected.
- Recorded data is protected and may be unloaded normally.
To restart the logger, do one of the following:
- Enter the <RESET> command on the keyboard
- Enter Alt-I in Test Mode (MDL Diagnostics)
- “Program the Logger with Scheme” (after saving data)
- Disconnect/reconnect the battery (after saving data).
- This problem has been fixed in firmware V21.9 which has been fitted to STARLOGGERs from serial number 751 onwards.
