The Evaporation Monitoring System measures how much water evaporates from a Class A evaporation pan by measuring the water level in an adjoining Still Well. (This smooths out fluctuations in the pan’s water level caused by wind.) Water level is measured using a modified
Model 6541 Precision Water Level Instrument fitted with a 100mm circumference pulley. This provides measurements with a resolution of 0.2mm. A thermistor probe float assembly rests on the surface of the water in the pan to obtain a surface temperature reading.
Other related instruments to consider: the Model 6503A/B Wind Run Anemometer, the Model 6506A Tipping Bucket Rainfall Gauge, and the Model 6501-DU Weather Instrument (measuring temperature, global solar radiation and relative humidity).
